The best blog for stupid gadgets and random shit gets a redesign. I came across this site about a year ago and it never ceases to amaze me the number of insane ideas people come up with. Hello! Pizza vending machine!?!

NYC To The Moon

Luna is one of the few rock bands that kept my interest during the 90s. Not only were their shows something of a gathering for my friends but their albums got heavy rotation at the parties i'd frequent. This song is a cover of an early Talking Heads number making up the b-side for another cover, Serge Gainsbourg's Bonnie and Clyde.

Always pimpin' the old remixes! I'd post something new but i haven't gotten anything remotely interesting in remixes in awhile. Perhaps some Fourtet next time around.

Friday Night Sounds

Oh to get the hell out of my house! I feel a little cabin-feverish. My friends are coming to pick me up for beers so i'll keep this short as always.
The Go! Team are young upstarts that remind me of carrying around a tape deck at school after lunch. People would say, "What the hell is that?" and i'd said, "Never mind. Go fuck yourself, gaylord!" Ya i was popular.
And of course, video!

Update : I never did make it out of the house. Beer came to me.

The Aussies Have It

My roommates are raving about the Wolfmother show in Vancouver tomorrow night. I can't say i'm a big fan of the revival rock but its high energy shows like this that make for a memorable event. Here is a remix of their biggest hit to date by yet another Australian export, the cut and paste masterminds The Avalanches.

Rolling Bass Lines

My band is finally getting together to hash out older songs and create something new. However i am really enjoying playing the bass in my room with headphones on. This is becoming a bit of a nightly routine; an after work release. Songs like this make me want to play until i have to go to work the next day.

Destroy Rock City

Lee Misenheimer has been running an interest illustration site for awhile now that caters to a love of Tolkin-esque character studies. There are a variety of pencil drawing exhibits throughout including "100 Drawings * 100 Days", which is exactly as it sounds. I've spent a great deal of time viewing this odd world he's created. Very wrinkly!

Take A Boo

Given that they're popularity on this side of the pond was due to a throwaway La's cover, its not a big surprise that the Boo Radleys didn't garner the same radio play as other Britpop bands. Their first couple of albums made up a huge chunk of my listening time while i was residing in Ottawa in the early 90s. I can remember walking to work in the cold with a few of their EPs on my walkman. Great Beatles and reggae inspired stuff here.

Low In The Sky Double Double

Downtempo is not the sun drenched TV friendly cliché of early 21st century any more. Bands seem to be incorporating more folk, space rock and soundscape weirdness than ever before. Low In The Sky released Dear Birds in 2005 to much praise but little airplay. Hopefully this doesn't deter them from making more cool tracks.

I've Tricked Myself

I feel like i've done something tonight that warrants this song. It seems to be replaying itself over and over in my head. As sappy as it sounds i met a girl tonight that i made an ass of myself to. I regret this because we got along so well. Hell we even dressed the same. Such an ass! Sometimes its best to keep my yammering speakhole closed.

Ummm February Rain

Time to get back to the drone portion of this site. If you are waiting for a new My Bloody Valentine album you might as well wait for John and George to rise from the grave to reform the Beatles. Kevin Shields has been talking about an album in the near future but i hardly believe that. The man is a sloth!
New York's Psychic Ills might be the sort of band i'd envision Kevin leading if someone could airlift the man out of his home. Big phase action abounds as vocals take a back seat to noise and far away melodies. God i sound corny. I'd probably be better off writing travel brochures.

Melting Pot Music Double Double

These folks are serious beat makers. Melting Pot Music is a German run label of international artists with a passion for releasing live and cut up funk and breakbeats. Lefties Soul Connection are probably their best known artist having recorded a spot on cover of DJ Shadow's Organ Donor. Another staple of Melting Pot is A-ko. This 19 year old producer has the cut and paste savvy of RJD2 and a good sense of humour to boot.

Get Naked

A little something for the exhibitionist in all of us. French composer Jean-Claude Pelletier recorded this super funky album in the mid 70s. I have no idea if it was a soundtrack for a movie but imagine the sort of asinine plot involved if it was. A hell of a lot of pancake makeup for the hundreds of extras. The soft lighting on your fun bits. Cut! We need more backside. Less droopy balls. Get me Loni Anderson on the phone. This picture needs star power. Freddy, cue the oil covered midgets! Places people!

Now if you don't mind i'll be running down the street with my ass hanging out. Thank you very much.

Guns And Monitors Don't Mix Well

Interesting way of destroying an old computer monitor with an air rifle. I blew up my old Vic 20 when i was a kid. Green smoke came out of it. Ahh, Gorf was a blast to play.

Clutchy Hopkins Double Double

After the last Clutchy post a few days ago i started looking for more of his songs and found some from his first album. Kind of a mix of what i like in both Tommy Guerrero and Madlib. The songs are simply titled after their duration.

Who Is Clutchy Hopkins?

I'm always amazed when MF Doom hooks up with a beat maker (see Madlib, duh?) and comes up with his crazed flow. The guy can do no wrong. This time around he's hooked up with relatively unknown producer Clutchy Hopkins. Wikipedia has this to say about Clutchy : "Clutchy Hopkins is a multi-instrumentalist who recorded under various pseudonyms throughout his entire musical career; his recorded output consists of everything from field recordings of his travels to avant compositions, to jazz to funk." His full history is the stuff of a crackpot's wet dream. This collaboration is totally instrumental, no samples.

Update : I can't believe anyone actually reads my silly rants. I've been informed that this is not a collaboration but bootleg remixes. This would seem to make sense seeing as Clutchy has fallen off the face of the planet. I must say i find the whole back story of found recordings and his disappearance bit hard to swallow. It almost seems like a fabricated story to bring some attention to these recordings. Hopefully this doesn't piss off folks leaving irate comments. Just seems fishy is all.

When Things Go Horribly Wrong

Freaky Styley was high school for me. The Red Hot Chili Peppers had recorded a super punk funky album with George Clinton and i was skating up my own small town session spots on a regular basis. We tried to build a quarter pipe in an open field only to have it destroyed by slobbering red necks in bad Chevys.
Now the Chili Peppers make soap commercial appropriate light rock. I think i need to buy a new skateboard.

One of the best hip hop albums of the 90s, Dr. Octagon brought some P-funk flavour and disjointed rhymes to a time of bloated rap. If you don't have a copy of the Dr. Octagonecologyst LP than you might be head deep in your own ass.
