A Crackpot Theory

Creationism is real! I've turned a new leaf on the issue of evolution after seeing this inspirational video. Please enjoy while eating a PB and J sandwich.*

Drawn Together Nicely

I've recognized Drawn as an great source for illustrators before and how can i pass on the taste makers now. Californian creatives Doug Cunningham and Jason Noto have a great street art sensibility and a fluid take on iconography. Do check out their portfolio for skateboards, rock posters, t shirts and all sorts of interesting designs.

Hip Hop Guitar Rockedness

After last night's sub par Apples In Stereo show and several nervous beers, tonight's Ratatat gig might have been a half hearted showing for me. I couldn't be further from the truth. Live guitars and electro hip hop beats are the shit. I'm deaf.
They're second remix album is playing constantly on my overworked ipod.
Here are a couple tracks...

Temptations Double Double

Posts are far and few these days. Too be a true Vancouverite is to complain. If i hear one more person talk shit about the weather, i'll stick an umbrella up their ass and open it wide. I still have that mid winter hide-in-my-room-until-June feeling that won't go way so please don't add to my mindset by telling me how cold and wet you are.
But enough of my bitching...
Its time for some good time, happy go lucky, pick up your feet music from 1970... Groovin'!

Streaming Video For The Tivo Deprived

I've been looking for alternatives to downloading video for awhile now until a friend of mine turned me on to TV Links. Its a fantastic site for streaming television, movies and cartoons. Now i can catch up on Heroes (pictured above), Battlestar Galactica and others without having to use Bit Torrent.
Enjoy.

Stuck In The 90s

I've noticed my postings over the past couple months have involved a great deal of Creation Records artists. My early 20s were spent listening to a lot of shoegazing english bands and techno weirdos. During this time i was a regular reader of the NME. At one point the magazine was offering up free Creation mixes on cassette. I managed to pick up one featuring this song by the Telescopes.
Also another boring yet polka dotted shoegazing video for Flying...

Chicago Ballpark Burnin' Disco

During the late 90s French house craze, a little Norwegian band caught my attention. Those Norwegians may have been your typical filter obsessives but they pulled off a super fresh disco album with Kaminsky Park that pleasantly plagued my friends and roommates for months. This stuff dates itself nicely. Ass shakin' abounds!!!

DJ Day Double Double

Its been awhile since i've heard a beat friendly album as good as this. Lots of old soul and afro beat samples plus a cameo from Stones Throw staple, Aloe Blacc. Downtempo music is in good hands with another fine Melting Pot production from DJ Day.

I Keep My Sunsword In The Garage

As a child of the late 70s and early 80s, Saturday morning was always a time of television worship. Thankfully youtube brings my memories back to life. 1994 went by without a hitch...

Occasion Double Double

Do you ever regret not catching a live show by a band you believe may never come around you're way again? The Occasion played a show in Vancouver during the summer and i totally flaked on getting tickets. Perhaps it was the idea of going alone or the fact they were opening for a band i didn't know that well, i don't know. But after hearing their last album, Cannery Hours, in full, i know i missed something fantastic.
Oh and a dark live video of the song, Sunday Afternoon...

Oh Self Promotion!

It was only a matter of time before i started posting my own music. City Wide Walkie Talkie has been my sole creative outlet for odd sounds for almost a decade now. We started out as an electronic trio, building strange songs with the help of multiple drum machines, keyboards and the occasional guitar. Over the last few years we've gone back to basics as a more droned out live funk band, knee deep in instrumental hip hop and space rock. The song i'm posting up is my favourite from the last album we released, Planet of the Superspeakers. Brian Longhurst, the gentleman pictured above, arranged most of the album and continues to work on new recordings that will be released at some point over the next year or so.

More Late Night Remixes

Burning the midnight oil never felt so good. Why i post this shit at 1:30am is anyone's guess. Tonight's offering is a mix of jazzy beats and Aphex weirdness.
Expect a full Saint Etienne post come the next spring filled day. Daylight Saving! Spring is coming soon.

Farts Are Fun

Politically incorrect humour is done best by hot jewish chicks. Sarah Silverman has got the funniest show i've seen since Family Guy. Great cast and crazy animation make this a must see. Enjoy the clip...

Gee Gee Swamp!

While at work, i find i need to appease the masses with music or its bad rawk radio for the whole day. My coworkers just love modern rock and its slowly killing me. Seriously, Finger Eleven? Jesus Fucking Ass Rape! Stop signing these bands.
Movie soundtracks satisfy the bastards easily. Easy Rider has been written about a million times so i won't get into that. This song puts a big smile on my face.

Spiritualized Double Double

Spiritualized is for the overly relaxed in all of us. Jason Pierce formed this band towards the end of his time in the 80s drone rock giant Spacemen 3. Through a number of line up changes (see Lupine Howl) and the frontman's serious bout of pneumonia, Spiritualized is going strong, releasing new music and touring regularly. The tracks i've included are two of my current favourites. One being an early Velvet Underground cover and the other a fantastic beat driven remix by the Two Lone Swordsmen.

Unlikely Reggae Compilation

I'm not a huge Radiohead fan but i have seen them live a couple of times. Once was at the Railway Club where they got booed off stage. Yes this is Radiohead i'm talking about. Strange shit happens in Vancouver. Sometimes i think we've lost our minds.
Jonny Greenwood has put together a compilation of Studio One archived reggae tunes that seem like the furthest thing from his band. I'm enjoying this quite a bit and hopefully you will too.

Free Tickets Mean More Fun

In my 12 years of living in Vancouver, tonight was the first time i saw a Canucks game. I'm not the greatest hockey fan but hell, you can't pass up free tickets. My Australian roommate and her friend tagged along for what turned out to be a fantastic game ending with Vancouver winning 4-3 over the Phoenix Coyotes.
Enough babble! Tonight's song is brought to you by the almighty De La Soul...
