One Two Three Go!

Time to shake a little...
I need to post some uptempo shit. No drones or slow beats on this Thursday. Strictly booty displacement for all! I'll try to get a Canada Day* post in if i can but until then, enjoy yourself.

Filling The Quota

Eating ice cream and playing some Level 42. If this turns you off my site, so be it. Mark King makes me laugh. The lyrics are horrible and the guy knows it. Really shlocky love stuff. This is not a guilty pleasure but a pleasure nonetheless.

Jel Double Double

My good friend and occasionally picked on drummer Brian got me interested in this guy a few years back and i still enjoy those cut up beats. Having seen Jel perform with Subtle, its amazing hearing live MPC work with real drumming. I think that hitting pads is a greater substitute for a drum machine. I've played guitar and bass with a drum machine before and have had great success. However try adding a live drummer to the mix and it can start to sound a little strained. Busy.
Greenball is one of the best beats albums of the past ten years if not the best. Its not really high praise from me. I tend to be fairly easy going picking my favourites.
Oh and video...

Washed Away

Holy crap! I woke this morning to a rain storm that could have taken the roof off the old house i'm living in. Seriously water logged. It was as ugly as this dog but with more teeth.
More instrumental goodness is needed...

And Saturday Beats...

Feel like taking it easy tonight after a few nights of drinking over the past week. One of my co-workers is heading out on tour with Nickelback (shitastic!) so its been a bit of a piss up. Hope these songs will do the trick!
Thanks to Silence Is A Rhythm Too for the Bullion post! Great Dillaesque Beach Boys mashup...

Saturday Rock And Roll

Thought i'd post a little rock seeing as i've been neglecting my "rock and roll doody". Vietnam was the opening band for the Black Angels awhile back and really blew me away. Its a recurring theme with me. I'll go see a band that i like only to have them upstaged by the opening act. Not the first and certainly not the last. Oh well...

Worst Movies Ever

After seeing some of the shitiest "BLOCKBUSTERS" of the year, i stumbled upon this gem from the good people at I Watch Stuff. I don't feel so sad after all.

DJ Mehdi Double Double

First day of summer! I'm not believing this whole "Vancouver will be seeing a much cooler summer than the rest of Canada" nonsense. Still i'm not gonna bust out a lime green speedo to prove the media wrong. Ah lime green speedo. That sight would burn out the healthiest of retinas.
DJ Mehdi is someone i've only recently been introduced to. His musical tastes are heavily 80s based, giving a nod to electro funk that would give Cameo a run for their money.

Collaborative Measures

From LA With Love is a collection of offbeat hip hop beats and jazzy pop loveliness coming from where else but Los Angeles. The usual scenesters are represented here, ie. Madlib and his ilk of sound scape misfits.
Enjoy!

Ollie McRad Would Be Proud

Dude i got a skateboard today. Its been about 10 years since i've ridden a board and a friend was offering to give me a skate, how i could refuse?
So what comes first? Broken leg, arm or neck? Really its only a matter of time before i get run down by a car. Hell people are giving me the dirtiest looks while i'm out enjoying myself. I officially love my hand-me-down skateboard. Now to gleam the cube!
Triple mellow headed beats and the like...

Back And In Charge

Had a pretty good time relaxing in Ontario this week although it was a little on the cold and wet side. Whine! I also got to witness some of the short lived Stanley Cup fever. Ahh the better team won. No sour grapes.
Anyways, having given you a taste of the Beasties new album with the video for Off The Grid, i found a few other tracks including this great little latin number. Its shaping up to be their best work in years...
