City Wide Static Low Frequency

I haven't had the time to edit some of the new material we're working on but i'm hoping in the coming months to throw some new City Wide tracks online. My new laptop seems to be a great second keyboard that will eventually retire my old 505 for good.
Enjoy this old track from our second album...

Melody Day Live

Those makers of taste, Stereogum, have posted this decent live video for Melody Day by Caribou. Have the sixties returned? Better dust off the rotting hippie in my closet!
Then again maybe i best not do that. They stink...

Blktop Roadtrippin'

During a 2002 road trip sponsored by skate mag SLAP, Tommy Guerrero, Ray Barbie, Matt Rodriguez and fellow skaters/musicians, with instruments in tow, recorded a nifty little ep full of mellow jazziness that became Blktop Project. Its funny when i hear the Beasties doing this stuff. Its just not as smoothly orchestrated (that's not a dig). Hopefully we'll get a full length album from these guys soon.

Learning 'Bout The Funk With Baby Elephant

Prince Paul does the hip hop parody with an untouchable flare and his collaborative outfit Baby Elephant with Newkirk and Bernie Worrell is just another humour filled stepping stone. Bringing in guests George Clinton, David Byrne and others adds some fresh ideas that i haven't heard from this guy in awhile.
I'm playing the title track from the new album this fine eve. Although it is an instrumental, i'm diggin' the twisted groove of it all.

Read A Book

I came across this great cartoon over at Soul Crates and just wet myself a little. Seriously funny informative piece on living a better life brought to you by Not A Rapper.

Zen Loves The 80s But Hates Rick

From that great hip hop staple Stones Throw comes another reworked jem with Baron Zen's At The Mall Remixes. Yelling just makes the electro seem like i'm listening to 80s kids songs but stranger.
Like singing about rocker hair cuts. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Not Enough Time In The Day

When will all this working overtime stop? I'm starting to get a little retard with all the long days and workload building up. I've taken on a different job within the company i work for and its become fairly hellish. This also means that when i do get the chance to cut loose i tend to overdo the drinking and the like.
Just lovely...
Anyways here is tonight's triple threat from Pedro, Blockhead and Leon Mitchison...

House Of Love Double Double

Man i'm reading that last post from this morning and i'm thinking to myself, what a bastard! I really don't need to start the day like that.
The House of Love is one of my favourite late 80s bands that seemingly up and dropped off the face of the earth. To say that they were underrated is not saying enough. Getting lumped in with U2 soundalikes, HOL got left behind once Madchester hit.
I had the opportunity to meet singer Guy Chadwick as a very young 20something and found a man with a fairly dry wit but a bleak outlook on his musical future. Perhaps he's found a more rewarding pastime.

Happy 9/11 Day

Hope everyone has a bin Laden free day! Better yet a bin Laden and W Bush free day. Bring on the countless boring news shows and phony politicians giving there take on the only day we refer to by numbers. I don't plan on turning on the television today. Cheers!

SuperWhat?

When a movie can prompt multiple viewings, that's a classic in my book. SuperBad is just that. A foul mouthed teen movie with three of the geekiest characters since Revenge Of The Nerds on the prowl for booze and easy teen sex. I can't get enough of this shit and everyone with a working set of eyeballs should see this.
Tonight's song comes from the opening sequence to the movie...
Fantastic funk filled soundtrack with music by Lyle Workman, Jean Knight, The Roots and more.

Time's 50 Worst Cars Of All Time

This is probably the first posting i've done relating to CNN but i love these campy old beaters. I have a really hard time with cars. Sure, the designs are visually pleasing but what it boils down to for me is too many angry people on the road and everyone getting lazier and fatter by the moment.
Got to love this picture above. The designer must have envisioned a transitional mode of transportation. A little less horse, a little more car.

Investigative Soul

Today's soul number is brought to you by the lovely Nicole Willis. I really haven't been following her career as closely as i have her husband's, Jimi Tenor. What i've heard from Keep Reachin' Up is nothing short of gold. Really clever arrangements and mellow, almost Californian soul without sounding too dated.
I dedicate this ditty to my friends Chris and Lisa on the arrival of new baby girl, Genevieve Gray.
Damn! Not another Hobbs!

On The Dumb End Of The Undead

I'll admit that Snakes On A Plane was a fairly interesting premise for a throw away action movie. Having said that it doesn't mean you can re-purpose the bloody thing with zombies and expect to get the same results. Come on! What next, fire breathing one legged hookers on a plane?

Dr No Knows

Is it me or do you find it strange that Oh No and his brother Madlib both put out eastern flavoured beat albums? I picked up Oh No's Dr. No's Oxperiment on the weekend and i've got to say i think i like it more than what Madlib has put out recently. The man needs to take a break and start fly fishing or something. Just take a break already. You may think differently, hell you may not care at all, but i'm just putting it out there.

Labour Day Triple Shot

While most people are enjoying these last few summer days (see beer bong), i've been keeping quiet with movies and reading. It seems that any time off i get these days are spent trying to recharge my batteries.
Its a quick post from me today as i see the sun peaking out from behind the clouds and a nice cold drink is calling my name.

Zombie Zoo

Having just finished reading the informative "Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks, i've found myself craving all things zombie. The Walking Dead is a great comic series that follows main man, Rick, as he tries to get his family and friends to safety following an outbreak of zombies that leaves the world in utter chaos. Not your average Tales From The Crypt fare.
