Sa Ra Double Double

I've been quite the slow poke on the postings lately and i really don't mind. Sometimes i just can't find anything interesting to share. I'll try to break this habit.
Today's offering comes from Sa Ra's Hollywood Recordings. Not much to say about this LA based hip hop trio that's not explained in the video below. The beats are chill and the rhymes are of the P Funk laid back variety. Look for big things from these guys. And hopefully a Canadian tour. Wink wink!
Enjoy, bitches!

Gotta Have Balls

Better than Winona's magic ping pong ball trick. Pants required!
I hope to have some new music for you this weekend if i get the chance. Feeling a little under the weather. This could be my third cold of the year. What's up with that?

Late Night Booty Call

Not really but i thought i'd play something a little more sexed up. Madlib and Aloe Blacc are where its at as far as i'm concerned tonight. I 've had too much fun at the Air concert at Richard's. Great voice and beats on this b side.

Sprung

Good to see that the sun is finally upon us. Being an "almost albino", i can tell you that sunlight can be troubling at times. Hopefully my parents will grant me a reprieve from the basement and allow for some grazing time in the backyard.
I promised some St. Etienne when the weather got nice...
This track is from the fantastic Foxbase Alpha. Having not heard this album would have stunted my pop sensibilities and probably kept me in the basement a lot longer.
Damn parents.
The video is from a later single, You're In A Bad Way...

Bunged Up And Slightly Sunburnt

Do not drink and box. Putting on the gloves is one thing but after a few drinks your pain threshold tends to increase. I banged my head against the corner of a wall after getting a couple good shots in. This didn't stop me from more human punching bag fun.
Remember boxing before rum.
Always!
Having given you this little nugget of truth, enjoy these mostly instrumental delights...

A Little Of The Ultra Violence

Time for a little Korean animated escapism from the good people at Drawn. Like a gory episode of the Smurfs. Smurf berries covered in blood.

An Even Lazier 9 Lazy 9 Double Double

Finding the right mix of old lounge songs and hip hop in the early 90s was a little foreign to me. I'd spent years listening to very synthetic music but with bands like Massive Attack and others heavily influenced by movie soundtracks and fringe percussion instrumentation, it was only a matter of time before i'd run into 9 Lazy 9. This great Italian downtempo beast of an album kept me in a perpetual state of numbness and still holds up as a masterpiece in a time riddled with ho hum club mixes. Certainly Ninja Tune 101 for all non-believers.

Birthday Glutton

Although i didn't spend my birthday with strippers and blow up kangaroos, i've managed to have a spirited celebration nonetheless. Too much pasta and not enough booze!
And i end the evening off with this ditty lovingly known more as a Happy Mondays cover...

Bunnymen Double Double

Echo and the Bunnymen are still my favourite rock band of the eighties. Anyone who came into contact with me between grades 10, 11 and 12 certainly got an ear full of my Bunnymen blathering. "Why the hell would you bother listening to U2 when you've got a band like this? Bono is a dick!" I still believe Bono is a dick but i'm not 100% sure the Bunnymen sound is all that now. With the Stills (whatever happened to...) and Coldplay ripping off their sound so convincingly, its hard to believe that a present day version of my 16 year old self would have given a flying fuck. Perhaps i'd be all about Diddy or some shitty metal band who's singer's vocal range makes up all the sounds i forcefully produce while taking a crap.
Here's a little video of them in their heyday performing The Puppet...

Lone Star Rock And Roll

The best psychedelic band in the world right now is by far the Black Angels. Hailing from Texas, their sound is what the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club wish they had and what the Jesus and Mary Chain could have had if they dealt in more mind altering drugs. I've seen them play a couple times in Vancouver (including an extremely late gig at the Lamplighter) and hope to get tickets for their May show with Vietnam. The song i've selected is not from their brilliant debut, Passover, but from something i found online when i was originally introduced to the band.

But If It Was A Real Movie...

Awhile back i posted the trailer for Grindhouse and today i came across this gem at I Watch Stuff! Its a fake trailer from Eli Roth of Hostel fame that will be played at the beginning of Grindhouse. How 70s is this?

*Warning nudity and gore. Lovely!

More Instrumental Magic

My weekends are spent, for the greater part, walking around listening to music, sporting dark sunglasses. With a little sunshine all the ladies go crazy with the skimpy clothing. Seriously its not that warm but thank you all the same.
Today's hip hop instrumental offerings are from the crème de la crème...
